Investment and Conversion

TotalEnergies is investing over €500 million to transform its Grandpuits refinery into a zero-crude platform by 2024. The site will focus on producing biofuels, bioplastics, and recycling plastic waste, aligning with the company's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Production Capacities

The Grandpuits site will convert 400,000 metric tons of biomass into biofuels annually, primarily for aviation. It will also produce 100,000 metric tons of PLA bioplastics and recycle 15,000 metric tons of plastic waste each year. The biofuels unit will process animal fats, used cooking oil, and other vegetable oils, excluding palm oil.

Partnerships and Collaborations

Two key partnerships have been established to accelerate the site's transformation. TotalEnergies and SARIA will develop sustainable aviation fuel production, while TotalEnergies and Air Liquide will focus on producing and utilizing renewable, low-carbon hydrogen.

New Facilities

The site will host Europe's first PLA bioplastics plant, a joint venture with Corbion, with a production capacity of 100,000 metric tons per year. Additionally, France's first chemical recycling plant, in collaboration with Plastic Energy, will process 15,000 metric tons of plastic waste annually, converting it into TACOIL for polymer production.

Solar Power Integration

Two photovoltaic solar plants with a combined capacity of 52 MW will be built at the Grandpuits and Gargenville sites. These plants will provide green electricity to the new facilities, supporting TotalEnergies' ambition to power all its industrial sites in Europe with renewable energy.

Employment and Redeployment

The industrial redeployment will be carried out with no layoffs, utilizing early retirements and internal mobility. Of the 400 jobs currently at the Grandpuits platform, 250 will be maintained, and 15 new jobs will be created. The construction projects will generate up to 1,000 jobs over three years.
