- The Sevilla plant will process 33,000 tons of plastic waste annually.
- The plant is expected to be operational by early 2025.
- TACOIL will be used to produce food-grade polymers.
- A similar plant in Texas will be operational by mid-2024.
Project Overview
Plastic Energy and TotalEnergies have signed an agreement to develop an advanced recycling plant in Sevilla, Spain. This facility will be the second of its kind in the region, aimed at converting end-of-life plastic waste into TACOIL, a recycled feedstock.
Plant Capacity and Operations
The Sevilla plant will process 33,000 tons of post-consumer plastic waste annually, preventing it from ending up in landfills or incineration. The plant is scheduled to become operational by early 2025. TACOIL produced here will be used to manufacture high-quality polymers at TotalEnergies’ European production units.
Global Initiatives
This project is part of a broader commitment by both companies to advance plastic recycling and support a circular economy. In September 2020, they announced a joint venture to build a 15,000-tonne capacity plastic waste conversion facility at TotalEnergies' Grandpuits platform in France, expected to be operational in 2023.
Additional Projects
In October 2021, Plastic Energy, Freepoint Eco-Systems, and TotalEnergies formed a strategic partnership for a similar recycling plant in Texas, USA. This facility, also with a 33,000-tonne annual capacity, is expected to be operational by mid-2024. TACOIL from this plant will be processed at TotalEnergies' Texas-based production units.
