Recent developments
Hydrogen and SAF
Europe’s SAF build-out saw a new EPCC award for SkyNRG's DSL-01 project in the Netherlands, a 100 kt/y HEFA unit integrating on-site SMR hydrogen. In mobility hydrogen, RFNBO-certified hydrogen supply from Lhyfe to Hyliko in the Paris region starts Nov 2025, leveraging France’s TIRUERT to cut retail prices by about €4–6/kg and expanding distribution with a second station near Roissy in 2027.
Power for gases
To decarbonize power-intensive gases operations, the Naos-1 Hybrid Solar and Battery Project (300 MW PV, 660 MWh BESS) reached financial close to wheel electricity to Sasol and Air Liquide in South Africa, targeting commercial operation in H1 2028. Hybrid dispatchability supports continuous loads such as air separation and hydrogen production under private wheeling structures.
Gas feedstock shifts
Central European gas inflows increased via LNG, with ORLEN’s imports to the Świnoujście terminal up 30% to 81 cargoes in 2025 and regas capacity expanded to 8.3 bcm, with an FSRU at Gdańsk planned to add 6.1 bcm. Upstream, Phase 2 of the Congo LNG project started, lifting capacity to 3 MTPA and reinforcing diversified supply for European buyers.
Strategy and equipment
Industrial technology suppliers signaled mixed conditions. Decarbon Technologies at thyssenkrupp reported negative earnings amid sales declines but advanced work on green hydrogen and CO2 capture, with group guidance unchanged. SAF project designs in Europe continue to integrate on-site hydrogen via SMR, aligning near-term supply with natural gas availability.
