Project Overview
Air Liquide has decided to construct a 200 MW electrolyzer, named ELYgator, in Maasvlakte, Port of Rotterdam. This project is a significant step in European decarbonization efforts, focusing on low-carbon hydrogen production.
Financial and Government Support
The project benefits from substantial financial backing, with Air Liquide investing over 500 million euros. It has received crucial support from the Dutch government through the OWE subsidy scheme, as well as from the European Innovation Fund and the Dutch IPCEI program.
Production and Environmental Impact
ELYgator will produce 23,000 tons of renewable hydrogen annually, primarily supplying TotalEnergies’ industrial platform. The project aims to reduce up to 300,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year, serving industrial and heavy-duty mobility sectors.
Technological Innovation and Timeline
This electrolyzer is unique, integrating both Proton Exchange Membrane and Alkaline technologies on the same site. The project is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2027.
