Contract Overview
Technip has secured a turnkey contract valued at approximately €260 million from Total to enhance the conversion capacity of the Normandy refinery near Le Havre, France. The scope of the contract includes engineering, procurement, and construction of new units.
New Units
The project involves the installation of a 2.4 million metric tons per year distillate hydrocracking unit, based on Axens technology, and a hydrogen production unit utilizing Technip’s technology. These units are designed to convert heavy petroleum fractions into very low sulfur distillates, such as automotive diesel and kerosene, catering to the growing European markets.
Environmental Impact
The hydrocracking unit will also produce high-quality bases for lubricants and specialty fluids. Technip will employ the best available technologies to design the new units, aiming to minimize environmental impact and significantly reduce the refinery's output of heavy fuel oil.
Timeline
The start-up of the new units is scheduled for mid-2006, marking a significant upgrade in the refinery's capabilities and environmental performance.
