Industrial gasses

Updates from the industrial gasses industry in Europe: manufacturers, investors, new plants and developments.

Recent developments

Supply and exploration

ORLEN Upstream Norway confirmed a gas and condensate discovery in the Sleipner Area at Frida Kahlo, targeting first output in H1 2026. Sinopec’s Yuanlu 33 Well in the Sichuan Basin delivered over 1 mcm/d, consolidating resources for a major gas base. The Gasunie 2025 report noted 685 TWh transported in the Netherlands amid higher power‑sector gas demand.

Hydrogen standards and tech

China established the Standardization Technical Committee for the Hydrogen Field, managed by Sinopec, defining frameworks across production, storage, transport, and applications. INEOS Electrochemical Solutions advanced catalyst‑coated separator prototypes for electrolysis. Nobian and VERVAEKE launched Europe’s first ADR-certified hydrogen truck for chemical transport around Rotterdam, targeting zero‑emission hazardous‑goods logistics.

Projects and low‑carbon gases

NEXTCHEM won a €485 million contract for hydrogen, ammonia, urea, and methanol technologies across West Africa, including five hydrogen and five ammonia units and an ammonia‑methanol co‑production complex. In France, Plenitude and Methagora signed a 15‑year biomethane supply, supporting BPCs and conversion of methanation sites. Gasunie progressed hydrogen and CO₂ networks, with Rotterdam’s hydrogen grid completed.

Investments and capacity

Uniper met 2025 targets and plans hydrogen-ready gas-fired power plants in Germany, while securing about 110 TWh via long‑term gas supply contracts for diversification. Aramco’s 2025 financial results highlighted capex of $52.2 billion and programs to increase sales‑gas capacity ~80% by 2030, with Jafurah starting up and the Tanajib Gas Plant commencing operations.
