Investment and Transformation
Total is investing over €500 million to convert its Grandpuits refinery into a zero-crude platform by 2024. The new platform will focus on producing renewable diesel, bioplastics, recycling plastics, and operating photovoltaic solar power plants.
End of Crude Oil Refining
Crude oil refining at the Grandpuits refinery will cease in the first quarter of 2021, and storage of petroleum products will end by late 2023. The refinery's operations will be supported by the Donges and Normandy refineries, ensuring no disruption to service stations and airports in the Greater Paris region.
Job Impact and Redeployment
The transformation will maintain 250 of the current 400 jobs at the Grandpuits platform and create 15 additional jobs in a new bioplastics packaging unit. Up to 1,000 jobs will be generated during the three-year construction period for the new units. Total is committed to supporting partner companies and maintaining 200 full-time equivalent jobs in the new configuration.
New Industrial Units
The Grandpuits facility will include a bio-refinery producing renewable diesel primarily for aviation, a bioplastics plant in partnership with Corbion, and a plastics recycling plant with Plastic Energy. The bio-refinery will process 400,000 tons per year, including sustainable aviation fuel, renewable diesel, and renewable naphtha. The bioplastics plant will produce 100,000 tons of PLA annually, and the recycling plant will convert plastic waste into TACOIL for polymer production.
Solar Power Initiatives
Total will also build two photovoltaic solar plants with capacities of 28 MWp and 24 MWp at the Grandpuits and Gargenville sites, respectively, contributing to the company's goal of providing green electricity to its industrial sites in Europe.
