- The Pecém Complex will have a green ammonia terminal operational by 2026.
- The terminal will support green hydrogen production and export via green ammonia.
- Pecém aims to produce 1 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030.
- This production could meet 25% of Rotterdam's import demand.

Project Overview
The Pecém Industrial and Port Complex Development Company (CIPP S/A) has selected the Stolthaven Terminals and Global Energy Storage (GES) consortium to develop a green ammonia terminal. This decision follows a 15-month selection process. The terminal will be part of a shared infrastructure for green ammonia producers at the Pecém Complex, expected to be operational by 2026.
Location and Management
The Pecém Complex includes the Port of Pecém, an industrial area, and the Export Processing Zone (ZPE) Ceará. It is managed by CIPP S/A, which granted rights to Stolthaven and GES after a transparent selection process involving multiple global storage providers. The next phase involves developing the terminal's basic engineering before finalizing the contract with CIPP S/A.
Strategic Importance
The green ammonia terminal will facilitate the production and export of green hydrogen, positioning Pecém as a key player in renewable energy. The Port of Pecém, in partnership with the Port of Rotterdam, will establish a crucial export/import route between South America and Europe. By 2030, the Pecém Complex aims to produce 1 million tons of green hydrogen annually, potentially meeting 25% of Rotterdam's import demand.
Partnership and Expertise
Stolthaven Terminals and GES, both experienced in large-scale storage projects, formed a partnership in 2023 to develop and operate the terminal. Stolthaven has a strong local presence in Brazil, with 42 years of experience at the Port of Santos, and is recognized for its expertise in handling biofuels and specialty chemicals.
