The Port of Rotterdam is Europe’s largest seaport and an integrated industrial–logistics complex in the Netherlands, extending from the city of Rotterdam to the North Sea (Maasvlakte). It is managed and developed by the Port of Rotterdam Authority (Havenbedrijf Rotterdam N.V.), which provides port infrastructure and oversees maritime access for deep-sea, short-sea, and inland shipping, as well as rail and road links to the European hinterland.
The port hosts a major energy and chemical cluster, comprising refineries, steam crackers, chemical production sites, extensive tank storage, and bulk liquid terminals. It handles crude oil, refined products, gases, LNG, and a wide range of chemical intermediates and specialties. A dense pipeline network connects Rotterdam to industrial regions across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, enabling efficient feedstock and product flows. The port also supports shared industrial utilities and services and is active in energy-transition initiatives, including hydrogen, carbon transport and storage, and the development of bio-based and circular value chains.
