On 12 August Prime Minister Rob Jetten visited the Maasvlakte for an extensive three‑hour tour with Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, to review logistics and industrial developments.
Container terminal inspection
Jetten visited the APM Terminals container terminal. Containers transport food products, semi‑finished goods and finished products for import and export, and the discussions addressed both the resilience and vulnerabilities of Dutch infrastructure underpinning these supply chains.
Industry investment discussion
A roundtable with industry representatives focused on the investment climate. Many companies plan investments of hundreds of millions of euros in new sustainable production facilities but are concerned about generating sufficient returns in the Netherlands and face practical constraints such as grid congestion and nitrogen‑related permitting issues.
Holland Hydrogen 1
Jetten toured Holland Hydrogen 1, a Shell project described as Europe’s largest green hydrogen production facility. Once completed it will use renewable electricity from offshore wind to produce hydrogen, and the Port Authority has allocated part of the Maasvlakte for this type of sustainable industry.
