Agreement Overview

Braskem and Neste have entered into an agreement to supply circular and bio-circular feedstocks for polymer and chemical production. This collaboration aims to enhance sustainability in the industry by utilizing more environmentally friendly materials.

Production and Market Launch

Braskem will begin using Neste's sustainable feedstocks in the fourth quarter of 2024. The resulting polymer resins and chemicals will be marketed primarily in South America under the Wenew brand.

Feedstock Details

Neste's circular feedstock is derived from chemically recycled plastic waste, while the bio-circular feedstock is produced from renewable raw materials such as used cooking oil. These feedstocks are designed to reduce reliance on virgin fossil materials and lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Sustainability Certification

An ISCC PLUS certified mass balance approach will be implemented to integrate the new feedstocks into Braskem's existing processes. This certification ensures the sustainable sourcing of materials and maintains an uninterrupted chain of custody.

Regulatory Compliance

The feedstocks enable the production of high-purity monomers suitable for sensitive applications, including food-contact packaging. The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA) has acknowledged that chemical recycling processes can be used without specific authorization, provided they meet applicable regulations.
