- The plants will produce over 500,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel annually.
- Facilities are planned in France, Finland, and the USA.
- The initiative includes Shell CANSOLVTM carbon capture technology.
- The goal is to reduce e-Fuels costs through standardization and innovation.
Overview
Rely, a joint venture between Technip Energies and John Cockerill, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Verso Energy to develop seven e-Fuels production plants globally. These plants will be located in France, Finland, and the United States, aiming to produce over 500,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) annually, with lifecycle emissions up to 90% lower than conventional jet fuel.
Project Details
The MoU focuses on Verso Energy’s advanced e-SAF projects, including DEZiR, ReSTart, EpHyne, and LiCHEN in France, as well as projects in Oulu and Tornio in Finland, and Jesup in the USA. The collaboration aims to establish a standardized Methanol-to-Jet production platform to reduce the levelized cost of e-Fuels through innovation, standardization, and replication.
Technological Integration
The platform will incorporate Rely’s in-house technologies and those of its partners, notably including the Shell CANSOLVTM carbon capture technology. This technology is exclusive to Technip Energies for amine-based post-combustion carbon capture, contributing to the overall goal of reducing emissions and costs.
Strategic Goals
The partnership aims to position Rely as Verso Energy’s preferred partner for conducting all pre-FID studies, including Basic Engineering, pre-FEED, and FEED for each plant. The collaboration seeks to meet the 2030 target for e-SAF incorporation in the aviation sector, accelerating its decarbonization efforts.
