- The project will produce 1,250,000 tons of polyethylene annually in Atyrau, Kazakhstan.
- KMG plans to use Axens' AlphaButol\u00ae technology for high purity 1-butene production.
- The companies have signed an agreement for the Process Design Package for the project.
Project Overview
The First Integrated Gas Chemical Complex is set to be developed in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan, with an annual design capacity of 1,250,000 tons of polyethylene. This project will be located within a special economic zone, aiming to enhance the region's petrochemical output.
Previous Collaboration
KMG and Axens have a history of successful collaboration, notably in the 2018 modernization of the Atyrau Oil Refinery. This modernization increased oil refining conversion and the production of petrochemical products, including gasoline, diesel, and jet fuels, meeting K4/K5 specifications. Axens served as the licensor for this project.
Technology Implementation
For the new polyethylene project, KMG is considering the implementation of Axens’ AlphaButol® technology. This process is recognized as the industry standard for producing high purity 1-butene through ethylene dimerization, a critical component in polyethylene production. The technology is already in use at other large-scale petrochemical plants worldwide, supporting the production of premium-grade polyethylene.
Agreement Details
In support of this project, KMG and Axens have signed an agreement to supply the Process Design Package associated with the AlphaButol® technology. This agreement marks a significant step in the project's development, leveraging Axens' expertise to ensure efficient and high-quality production processes.
