Framework Agreement

During the state visit of Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to France, KazMunayGas (KMG) and Axens signed a framework agreement. This agreement aims to explore the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Kazakhstan, marking a significant step in their partnership.

Investment and Technology

The collaboration is expected to attract investments into Kazakhstan's energy sector and introduce advanced technologies. The focus is on producing high-quality fuel that aligns with modern environmental standards, leveraging Axens' expertise in renewable fuel technologies.

Feasibility Study

A feasibility study for the SAF production project is planned for 2024-2025. This study will assess the potential for using Axens technologies in the production of renewable fuels. A preliminary feasibility study has already been completed with the involvement of KMG’s subsidiary KazMunayGas – Aero LLP and Air Astana JSC.

Environmental Impact

SAF, derived from renewable resources, offers a significant reduction in carbon emissions, cutting them by 80% compared to conventional jet fuel. This aligns with global efforts to reduce the aviation industry's carbon footprint.

Technical Cooperation

In addition to the SAF project, KMG and Axens discussed technical cooperation in oil refining. This bilateral meeting between KMG's Askhat Khasenov and Axens' Quentin Debuisschert highlights the broader scope of their collaboration beyond SAF production.
