- KT received a $400M EPC contract from HOLBORN for an HVO complex in Hamburg.
- The plant will produce 220,000 tonnes of green diesel and SAF annually.
- Operations are scheduled to start in early 2027.
- The project uses waste, residues, and low-carbon hydrogen.
Project Overview
KT – Kinetics Technology, a subsidiary of Maire Tecnimont SpA, has secured an EPC contract from HOLBORN Europa Raffinerie GmbH to develop an HVO complex at the HOLBORN refinery in Hamburg. The project is valued at approximately $400 million.
Production Capacity
The new plant will produce around 220,000 tonnes of green diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) annually. The production process will utilize waste, residues, and low-carbon hydrogen.
Timeline
The plant is expected to commence operations in early 2027. The project includes a pretreatment plant, the HVO plant, and the necessary infrastructure to connect to existing facilities.
Environmental Impact
HVO, or green diesel, is derived from waste and residues and has the same chemical properties as fossil diesel. It reduces dependence on petroleum and lowers environmental impact, meeting the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) sustainability criteria.
Technological Expertise
KT's engineering teams are leveraging their expertise to design an innovative HVO complex that will enhance operational efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions at the HOLBORN refinery.
