BASF SONATRACH invests close to 10 million euros in Tarragona PDH plant.

BASF SONATRACH PropanChem in Tarragona will increase propylene plant capacity from 370,000 to 420,000 tons to meet growing demand. The project will focus on eliminating production bottlenecks and will be implemented during the 2021 maintenance stop. The investment comes at a time of good economic results and record production.

The propylene producer BASF SONATRACH PropanChem, located in the Tarragona Chemmed Cluster, will carry out a project to eliminate bottlenecks in the production process, which will increase the plant's annual capacity from 370,000 to 420,000 tons.

This investment has been initiated, since an increase in demand is expected in the short and medium term.

The project will focus on increasing the capacity of various equipment in the plant that currently limits production capacity and will be implemented at the next maintenance stop, scheduled for 2021.

"This project will maintain the competitiveness of the propylene plant and that of our customers, as well as the global leadership of plant efficiency with the same production process", explains J.A. Díaz, responsible for the project and the Technology  of the Propylene plant.

This investment has come at an optimal time of the company as it joins the good economic results of recent years and the milestone of having reached 5 million tons in November 2018, year in which, with 379,000t was achieved also, beat the absolute record of production of the plant.
