BASF SONATRACH PropanChem S.A. is a joint venture between BASF (51%) and Algeria’s state energy company Sonatrach (49%), operating a propane dehydrogenation (PDH) complex in the Tarragona chemical cluster in Spain. The facility converts propane into propylene, supplying a key feedstock to nearby polypropylene and other downstream units and supporting the region’s integrated petrochemical value chain.
Established in 2000 and commissioned in the early 2000s, the site is a large-scale unit with dedicated logistics and utilities for feedstock and product handling. Propane feedstock is sourced largely from Algeria, and propylene output is supplied primarily to customers in Iberia and Western Europe. The company’s operations are focused on reliable, efficient production within the Tarragona industrial hub.
