Plant Overview

Grupa Azoty's new Polyamide Plant II in Tarnów, Poland, officially opened on September 25th. The facility produces Polyamide 6, a widely used engineering plastic, under the trade names Tarnamid® and Alphalon™. The plant uses advanced technology from Uhde Inventa Fisher and has an annual capacity of 80,000 tonnes.

Investment and Job Creation

The project has a budget of PLN 320m and has created 55 jobs, with some positions filled by staff transferred from other units and others by new recruits. The plant is located in a sub-zone of the Kraków Special Economic Zone, which provides income tax reliefs, enhancing the return on investment.

Strategic Goals

The construction of Polyamide Plant II aligns with Grupa Azoty's long-term strategy to balance caprolactam and polyamide 6 production capacities. This strategy began in the mid-1990s and has evolved through various phases, including the acquisition of Unylon Polymers GmbH in 2010 and the incorporation of Grupa Azoty Puławy.

Additional Investments

In recent years, Grupa Azoty has invested heavily in Tarnów, with projects including Granulation Plant II (PLN 141m), a Research and Development Centre (PLN 74m), and various upgrades to existing facilities. Since early 2015, the company has invested over PLN 726m in the Tarnów plant.

Technological Advancements

The new plant is highly innovative, using cutting-edge technologies to produce high-grade Polyamide 6 for injection moulding and extrusion. This positions Grupa Azoty to further develop its product chain and integrate its operations across Tarnów, Puławy, and Guben, Germany.
