Investment and Construction

LANXESS is investing a mid double-digit million euro amount to build a new compounding facility at its Krefeld-Uerdingen site in Germany. Construction will begin in the fourth quarter of 2018, with production slated to start in the second half of 2019. The investment will also include the construction of a warehouse and a silo facility, creating around 20 new jobs at the site.

Production Focus

The new plant will produce Durethan and Pocan engineering plastics, which are primarily used in the automotive, electrical, and electronics industries. These high-performance plastics are essential for modern mobility solutions, offering significant weight reduction, fuel efficiency, and lower emissions in motor vehicles. Applications include engine components, door structures, pedals, and battery systems for hybrid and electric vehicles.

Strategic Importance

Krefeld-Uerdingen is a central production platform for LANXESS, especially for the European markets. The expansion will help meet the growing demand for high-performance plastics in the region. The new plant is designed for future scalability, allowing LANXESS to expand operations in line with market demand.

Global Production Network

LANXESS operates a global production network for high-performance materials, with facilities in Germany, Belgium, China, India, the USA, and Brazil. The company is also building a new compounding plant in Changzhou, China, scheduled to come on stream in the second quarter of 2019. This extensive network enables LANXESS to produce and process most of the intermediates for its engineering plastics in-house, ensuring a robust and integrated value chain.
