Sinopec's 'Four New' Strategy for Energy, Materials, Business Formats and Frontier Tracks
- Sinopec operates the world’s largest photovoltaic hydrogen production project and has built 11 fuel-cell hydrogen supply centers and 153 hydrogen refueling stations across 8 hydrogen corridors.
- Geothermal heating capacity tops 137 million square meters, with projects including China’s first clean‑heating ‘smokeless city’ and the Fushenre No.1 deep scientific exploration well.
- The charging and battery‑swapping network comprises more than 14,000 stations and 170,000 charging terminals, covering 400 cities, while retail outlets include 28,600 convenience stores.
- Sinopec commissioned China’s first 1 million t/yr CCUS demonstration and a 100‑km CO2 pipeline; the project has injected over 1.4 billion m3 of CO2 and raised daily oil output from 220 t to over 500 t.
New energy: multi‑energy complementary system
Sinopec is building an ‘‘oil and gas plus new energy’’ landscape across hydrogen, geothermal, photovoltaic, wind and biomass. It built China’s first 10,000‑ton‑scale photovoltaic green hydrogen demonstration, operates the world’s largest photovoltaic hydrogen production project, and is advancing Ordos and Ulanqab hydrogen projects. Hydrogen infrastructure includes 11 fuel‑cell supply centers, 153 refueling stations and 8 corridors, while technology progress spans AEM membranes, 100+kW AEM electrolyzers and organic liquid hydrogen storage.
Advanced materials: moving to technological independence
The group advanced carbon‑fiber large‑tow (48K, 60K) and achieved T1000‑grade wet‑process mass production, with nearly 20 carbon‑fiber product models. It commissioned 10,000‑ton EVOH resin capacity and industrialized PBST biodegradable materials, PVA optical films, POE, medical SEBS, impact‑copolymer PP and other high‑end products. Battery and electronic‑chemical efforts include ternary precursors, high‑capacity needle coke, separator materials, sodium‑ion battery pilots (with LG Chem) and G4 electronic‑grade sulfuric acid mass production in August 2026.
Integrated business: terminals, digital and customer ecosystems
Responding to consumption upgrades, Sinopec expanded charging and swapping (14,000+ stations, 170,000+ terminals, 400 cities) under the ‘‘Sinopec Easy Charge’’ brand and built a ‘‘one national network.’’ It deployed 28,600 Yijie convenience stores, 12,000+ auto care centers and ~2,600 coffee shops, serving over 380 million visits, and rolled out AI digital employees, a unified app and the world’s largest enterprise SD‑WAN to upgrade services.
Frontier fields and finance: CCUS, embodied intelligence and strategic investments
Early moves include China’s first 1 million t/yr CCUS demo and a 100‑km CO2 pipeline, with cumulative injection exceeding 1.4 billion m3 and corresponding oil production gains; Sinopec led creation of an international CCUS cooperation body in July 2025. The company targets future‑materials and embodied intelligence inputs and is using Sinopec Capital to invest in hydrogen, batteries, industrial software, circular economy, controllable fusion and aerospace to develop second‑curve growth.
