SINOPEC Dalian Research Institute of Petroleum and Petrochemicals Co., Ltd. (FRIPP), legally known as 中石化大连石油化工研究院有限公司, is a Sinopec subsidiary specializing in research and development for the petroleum refining and petrochemical sectors.
Tracing its origins to China's first refining technology research institution established in 1953 as the Fushun Research Institute, it relocated its main operations to Lushun, Dalian, in 2017 and was formally registered as a limited company in 2022. The institute manages the Fushun site and employs around 735 staff, including senior professionals and a Chinese Academy of Engineering academician.
With 15 research departments and 28 national/provincial centers—such as the National Engineering Research Center for Harmless Treatment and Resource Utilization of Industrial Wastewater—it focuses on clean refining, heavy oil processing, utilities, emerging energy, petrochemical materials, environmental protection, and digital technologies. It holds 517 Sinopec proprietary technologies, over 8,700 granted patents, and 42 national awards. Its innovations support over 900 production units across China and Belt and Road countries including Russia, Japan, and South Korea.
