Investment and Expansion
Messer is investing €11.3 million to build a new, fully automated CO2 recovery plant at their site in Lacq, France. This investment will double the site's production capacity to 130,000 metric tons of raw CO2 per year. The plant is scheduled to be operational by July 2022 and can be operated remotely.
Partnership with Vertex Bioenergy
The CO2 recovered by Messer is a by-product of the production process of Bioénergie du Sud-Ouest S.A., a company of Vertex Bioenergy. This partnership allows Messer to diversify its CO2 sources, ensuring a reliable gas supply for its customers in France and supporting the expansion of its CO2 business in northern Spain.
Applications of CO2
Carbon dioxide is a versatile gas used in various industries, including food and beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical, water treatment, and paper. The use of CO2 offers both economic and ecological advantages for many processes, helping customers meet market challenges.
Bioethanol Production
At its Lacq site, Vertex Bioenergy produces 235 million liters of bioethanol from corn annually, making it a European leader in the biofuel industry and the leading producer of bioethanol in Spain and France. This collaboration with Messer supports sustainable development in the biofuel sector.
