- The plant will produce up to 180 kg of hydrogen per hour.
- NEUMAN & ESSER will supply electrolyzers and compressors.
- The project is funded by BMDV with around 14.7 million euros.
- The plant is set to be operational by fall 2025.
Project Overview
Messer is set to build a green hydrogen production plant in the Brainergy Park Jülich, an industrial estate focused on new energies and energy transition. The plant will be operated by HyDN GmbH, a joint venture between the district of Düren and Messer.
Production Capacity
With a nominal output of 10 megawatts, the plant will produce up to 180 kilograms of hydrogen per hour. The green hydrogen will primarily power fuel cell buses, with five already in use and another 20 expected by November 2024.
Key Partners and Responsibilities
NEUMAN & ESSER has been commissioned to supply two electrolyzers for hydrogen production and two diaphragm compressors for pressurizing the hydrogen. Messer will handle the storage, filling, and quality assurance of the produced hydrogen.
Funding and Timeline
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMDV) with approximately 14.7 million euros as part of the National Innovation Program Hydrogen 2 (NIP2). The plant is scheduled to be operational by fall 2025.
