La Canonja, Tarragona, - IQOXE (Chemical Industries of Ethylene Oxide) has invested 10 million euros in a new state-of-the-art plant in La Canonja, which was inaugurated today.

The La Canonja plant is the only one in the Iberian Peninsula for this product, used primarily to sterilize surgical material, but also in the automotive, cosmetic or construction sector.

The new facilities multiply the production capacity of ethylene oxide derivatives by eight, going from 3,000 to 45,000 tons per year, with forecasts of using 20,000 tons of raw material.

The old plant, which produced 3,000 tons, is now reserved for fine chemistry of high value-added products for the pharmaceutical industry.

The CEO of IQOXE, José Luis Morlanes, has indicated that the company is a leader in Europe, with a global production of 140,000 tons of ethylene oxide derivatives annually.
