Project Overview
Cepsa is set to upgrade its Puente Mayorga Chemical Plant in San Roque, Spain, by installing Detal technology, co-licensed by Cepsa and UOP. This modern technology will increase the plant's production capacity from 200,000 to 250,000 tons of linear alkylbenzene (LAB).
Investment and Timeline
The project represents a €100 million investment. Work is scheduled to begin in May and is expected to take approximately two years to complete. The upgrade will involve the installation of 83 new pieces of equipment, requiring close to 650,000 man hours.
Technological Advancements
The Puente Mayorga plant will be the first in the world to transition from hydrofluoric acid to Detal technology. This change will enhance production efficiency, reduce emissions, and improve safety. The new Detal Plus version of the technology will also lower raw material consumption, contributing to sustainability.
Economic and Employment Impact
The project will generate 250 jobs, with peaks reaching 400 workers, most of them local. The increased production capacity will primarily serve high-growth African markets, where LAB demand is projected to grow by 5% annually until 2035.
