Project Overview
Borealis has awarded Maire Tecnimont's subsidiary, Tecnimont, an EPCM and commissioning services contract for a new propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant in Kallo, Belgium. The facility will have a production capacity of 750,000 metric tonnes per year, making it one of the largest and most efficient PDH plants globally.
Investment and Technology
The total contract value for the Kallo PDH project is approximately EUR 90 million. The plant will employ Honeywell UOP’s Oleflex™ technology, a widely used and reliable choice for on-purpose propylene production. This technology is known for its sustainability and efficiency.
Strategic Location
The new PDH plant is being constructed at an existing Borealis site in Kallo, chosen for its excellent logistical position and experience in propylene production. The location also allows for synergistic effects with the existing PDH unit on-site.
Timeline
The new plant is scheduled to start operations in mid-2022, aiming to meet the rising European demand for propylene, a crucial building block for the chemical industry and the production of polypropylene (PP).
