Investment and Expansion
The demand for specialty graphite solutions in the automotive industry has been steadily increasing. In response, SGL Group is investing approximately €25 million to expand its production capacities at the Bonn site over the next four years. This expansion includes the installation of new production systems and the construction of a new hall, with completion expected by 2020.
Key Projects and Orders
SGL Group has been commissioned by Rheinmetall Automotive – Pierburg to supply rotors and vanes for generating a vacuum in the EVP 40 brake booster. The annual order volume for this project is in the low two-digit million euros range. Specialty graphite is crucial in applications such as water pumps, exhaust gas management, and sealing rings, where it offers low friction values, temperature resistance, and long service life.
Industry Collaboration
The development, testing, and implementation of these projects are carried out in long-term collaboration with customers worldwide. This collaborative approach ensures that the solutions meet the complex requirements of modern automotive applications, including those for vehicles with alternative drives and standard combustion engines.
Future Engagements
To showcase its versatile new solutions, SGL Group will participate in various industry trade fairs throughout the year. These include the ACHEMA in Frankfurt am Main, the Japan Automotive Engineering Exhibition (JAEE) in Nagoya, and the International Suppliers Fair (IZB) in Wolfsburg.
