Investment and Capacity Increase
BEWi StyroChem, part of BEWi Group, is enhancing its product portfolio and production capacity with a significant investment in extruding technology at its Porvoo plant in Finland. The investment, amounting to nearly EUR 6 billion, aims to increase the production of expanded polystyrene (EPS) by approximately 12,000 t/a, which represents about 10 percent of the company's existing capacity.
Introduction of Grey EPS
The new extruding process will enable the production of grey EPS, which boasts about 20 percent better insulation characteristics compared to traditional white EPS. Grey EPS has already secured a substantial share of the insulation market in Europe, making this a strategic move for BEWi StyroChem.
Operational Timeline
The new production line is scheduled to begin operations during the second quarter of 2017. This development will also create approximately ten new jobs, as additional personnel will be required to manage the new production capabilities.
Recycling Initiative
In line with sustainability efforts, BEWi StyroChem will focus on recycling fish boxes to use EPS as the raw material for the new extruder line. This initiative underscores the company's commitment to environmental responsibility while expanding its production capabilities.
