Transaction Details
BASF has finalized the sale of its Styrodur® business, an extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation material, to Karl Bachl Kunststoffverarbeitung GmbH & Co. KG (BACHL). The transaction, approved by relevant authorities, was completed on June 30, 2025. Financial terms remain confidential.
BACHL's Expansion
In January 2025, BACHL expanded its sales reach by taking over the distribution of Styrodur® products. As a leading German insulation materials manufacturer and long-time BASF partner, BACHL has integrated the Styrodur® brand into its product portfolio.
BASF's Strategic Focus
BASF is refocusing its strategy on expandable polystyrene (EPS) with brands like Neopor® and Styropor®. To strengthen its market position, BASF plans to increase Neopor® production capacity in Ludwigshafen by 50,000 tons, reaching 250,000 tons annually by early 2027.
Employee Transition
Approximately 50 BASF employees involved in the Styrodur® business, covering production, marketing, and sales, will remain with BASF SE following the transaction.
