Project Overview

Tessenderlo Group is constructing a new liquid fertilizer plant at Borealis’ Grand Quevilly site near Rouen, France. The facility will produce Thio-Sul® (ammonium thiosulfate/ATS) fertilizer, which is used for broad-acre crops, arboricultural, and vegetable crop cultivation. This marks the group's first Thio-Sul® plant in Europe, addressing the growing demand for liquid fertilizer solutions that enhance sulfur nutrition and reduce nitrogen loss.

Employment and Economic Impact

The new plant will create approximately 20 jobs, contributing to the local economy. The investment in Rouen is a strategic move to better serve the European market by reducing reliance on imports from the USA.

Construction and Timeline

The engineering and construction of the plant are being managed by LGI (Le Gaz Intégral). The facility is expected to become operational in the second half of 2017. A ceremony to mark the construction was attended by key figures, including Stefaan Haspeslagh (Chairman of Tessenderlo Group), Geert Gyselinck (BU Director Tessenderlo Kerley International), and local officials.

Global Expansion

In addition to the Rouen plant, Tessenderlo Group is also investing in a Thio-Sul® plant in East Dubuque, Illinois, USA, with a similar completion date in the second half of 2017. These investments will strengthen Tessenderlo Group's position in the Agro business, enhancing its ability to meet global demand for liquid fertilizers.
