Project Overview
Tessenderlo Kerley International is set to build a new liquid fertilizer plant in Geleen, Netherlands, on the Chemelot industrial estate. The plant will produce Thio-Sul® (ammonium thiosulfate), a liquid fertilizer used for broad-acre crops.
Timeline and Employment
Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2022, with the plant expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2023. The facility will employ approximately 20 people.
Strategic Importance
This will be Tessenderlo's second Thio-Sul® plant in Europe, following the first one in Rouen, France, which opened in September 2017. The new plant aims to meet the growing demand for liquid fertilizers in the European market.
Integration with Chemelot
The project will enhance Chemelot's position as a key fertilizer player in Western Europe. It will also contribute to the captive use of ammonia and the integration of residual heat, aligning with Chemelot's goals of sustainability, safety, and competitiveness.
