Técnicas Reunidas Chosen for Yara's Nitric Acid Plant in Norway

Project Overview

Yara Norge AS has selected Técnicas Reunidas (TR) for the Nitric Acid Plant as part of its expansion project at Heroya Industrial Park in Porsgrunn, Norway. The contract is valued at approximately €85 million.

Technology and Capacity

Based on a Front End Engineering Package previously developed by TR, Yara has chosen TR not only as the main contractor but also for its nitric acid technology and expertise. The plant will have a design capacity of 1,050 MTPD, utilizing technology licensed by TR's subsidiary, ESPINDESA.

Global Experience

TR has 40 years of experience in developing chemical technology and has built more than 60 plants using entirely Spanish technologies in fertilizer manufacturing, nitric acid, and ammonium nitrate explosives for civil applications. TR is also working on a complete grassroots Nitric Acid and Ammonium Nitrate Project in Australia, expected to start in the second quarter of 2015.

Purpose and Application

The new Nitric Acid plant in Norway will primarily supply raw material for Yara's NPK fertilizer production.
