Investment and Contract
Air Liquide has signed a long-term contract to supply Bayer MaterialScience with hydrogen and carbon monoxide. To fulfill this contract, Air Liquide will invest approximately €100 million in a new production unit at Chempark Dormagen, near Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Production Unit Details
The state-of-the-art unit will be designed and built on-site by Air Liquide Global E & C Solutions teams. The commissioning of this unit is scheduled for 2014. This facility will produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide, essential for the manufacture of polymers.
Application and Usage
The gases produced will be used in the production of polyurethanes, which are essential for creating high-resilience foam seating, durable elastomeric wheels, and high-performance adhesives. Bayer MaterialScience, one of the world's largest polymer companies, will utilize these materials in their manufacturing processes.
Strategic Importance
This investment strengthens the long-standing relationship between Air Liquide and the Bayer Group, which has contracts in eight countries. It also reinforces Air Liquide's positioning in the dynamic industrial basin of North Rhine-Westphalia, particularly in the chemical and oil and gas industries.
