Petrobras P-78 (Búzios 6) Reaches 180,000 barrels per day
- P-78 reached its nominal capacity of 180,000 barrels per day.
- The platform is 180 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in the Santos Basin pre-salt Búzios field.
- The Búzios field produced 1.2 million barrels per day in July.
- Búzios will host 12 FPSOs; P-80 and P-82 are on their way with production expected in 2027.
Production milestone
The P-78 platform in the Búzios field reached 180 thousand barrels of oil per day on 31/10, equivalent to the unit's nominal capacity. P-78 was the seventh platform to begin operating in Búzios and hit peak production with the entry of well BUZ 100.
Reservoir characteristics
Búzios wells show very high productivity due to reservoir rock quality and thickness, described as high permo-porosity and high API grade oil, which favor strong oil flow from rock to well. P-78 sits in a region where the reservoir reaches almost 500 m, enhancing its production potential. Permo-porosity refers to the combined porosity and permeability that enable a rock to store and transmit fluids.
Engineering and performance
Reaching 180 thousand barrels per day is presented as the result of technology, execution capacity and accumulated pre-salt knowledge, with each new platform incorporating lessons to produce with greater efficiency and lower emissions intensity.
Field development and partners
The Búzios field already operates multiple FPSOs (P-74, P-75, P-76, P-77, P-79, Almirante Barroso and Almirante Tamandaré) and will host 12 FPSOs in total. Platforms P-80 (Búzios 9) and P-82 (Búzios 10) are en route to Brazil with production start expected in 2027; P-83 (Búzios 11) and a Búzios 12 unit (under tender) are planned. The Búzios consortium comprises Petrobras (operator), Chinese partners CNOOC, CNODC and PPSA.
