Production Expansion
Novamont has increased its MATER-BI® compostable bioplastics production capacity by 40,000 tonnes at the Mater-Biopolymer plant in Patrica, Frosinone. This expansion complements the existing 110,000 tonnes capacity at their Terni site, addressing the rising demand for biodegradable and compostable products.
Investment and Employment
The Patrica plant, which directly employs 90 people, was developed with an investment exceeding €100 million. The site was redeveloped from the former Mossi & Ghisolfi PET plant, enhancing production efficiency and diversifying Novamont's production capabilities.
Production Details
The plant produces 100,000 tonnes of ORIGO–BI® biopolyesters annually, which are components of MATER-BI®. The new process has halved the production volumes compared to traditional methods, resulting in higher value and more specific products.
Sustainability and Efficiency
Mater-Biopolymer is designed to meet quality, environmental, and safety standards. Its complex utility systems minimize costs and waste through recovery and reuse, aligning with circular economy principles and sustainability goals.
