New MXDA Plant in Rotterdam
Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. (MGC) is expanding its Meta-xylenediamine (MXDA) production capacity to meet growing market demand in the epoxy, polyamide, and isocyanate sectors. A new 25,000 MTA plant will be constructed in Rotterdam, managed by the newly established subsidiary, MGC Specialty Chemicals Netherlands B.V. The plant is scheduled to begin operations in mid-2024.
Strategic Expansion
This expansion is part of MGC's 3-year management plan, ‘Grow UP 2023,’ which aims to create a profit structure resilient to environmental changes. MXDA is identified as a “differentiating” business, and MGC is allocating resources to strengthen its competitive advantage in this area.
Market Demand and Applications
MXDA is primarily used in epoxy coatings for infrastructure applications due to its excellent anticorrosion properties. The European market, being the largest for MXDA in this sector, is expected to see long-term growth. The new Rotterdam plant will primarily serve this market, ensuring a stable supply of MXDA worldwide.
Continuity and Global Supply
Until the new plant becomes operational, MGC's two existing plants in Japan will continue to operate at full capacity to meet the fast-growing markets in Asia. The establishment of the new manufacturing subsidiary in the Netherlands will also enhance MGC's business continuity plan (BCP).
