Project Overview
Honeywell has been selected by Repsol to supply an integrated control and safety system (ICSS) for Spain's first advanced biofuels production plant in Cartagena. The facility will utilize Honeywell's distributed control systems (DCS), emergency shutdown (ESD), fire and gas (F&G), and human-machine interface (HMI) solutions to ensure efficient, sustainable, and low-emission operations.
Repsol's Emission Goals
Repsol aims to become a net-zero emissions company by 2050. The Cartagena biofuels plant will contribute to this goal by producing 250,000 tons of hydrobiodiesel, biojet fuel, bionaphtha, and biopropane annually. The plant will also use recycled raw materials to produce advanced biofuels for road transportation and aviation, reducing CO2 emissions by 900,000 tons per year.
Technological Integration
Honeywell's ICSS solution will include the Enhanced High-Performance Process Manager (EHPM) for regulatory control and sequence operations, Safety Manager SC for integrating all safety processes, and the Experion® Orion Console for advanced HMI capabilities. Honeywell will also provide engineering, design, configuration, testing, installation, and start-up services for the project.
