EU Innovation Fund backs three InnoEnergy portfolio companies
- The European Commission selected 77 projects across 23 countries that could receive a total of €3.4 billion from the EU Innovation Fund.
- GravitHy will build a 2 Mt/yr H2‑DRI/HBI plant in Fos‑sur‑Mer, expected to avoid >3 Mt CO₂ annually and was chosen in the large‑scale decarbonisation category.
- Holosolis plans a 5 GW integrated PV cell and module factory in Hambach, with production from 2027 and full capacity by 2030; >€220m initial financing secured and Trina Solar joined as technology partner.
- Enosis’ CouplHyNG will combine biogenic CO₂ and renewable hydrogen to produce e‑methane alongside biomethane on the same site, raising site energy output by ~70–100%; selected in the small‑scale category.
EU selection and next steps
The European Commission selected 77 projects across 23 countries for possible support from the EU Innovation Fund, a pool that could provide up to €3.4 billion. Each of the three InnoEnergy portfolio projects now enters grant agreement preparation with CINEA, expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
GravitHy — low‑carbon iron
GravitHy will develop a hydrogen‑based direct reduced iron (H2‑DRI) plant in Fos‑sur‑Mer producing hot briquetted iron (HBI) at a planned capacity of 2 million tonnes per year. Selected in the large‑scale general decarbonisation category, the project is expected to avoid more than 3 million tonnes of CO₂ annually, has Project of Major National Interest status in France, and has chosen Danieli as technology provider plus an EPC contract for a 1.15 GW electrical substation while progressing toward Final Investment Decision.
Holosolis — European solar manufacturing
Holosolis’ Solar4EU project will build an integrated photovoltaic cell and module factory in Hambach, Moselle, with 5 GW capacity. Production is planned to start in 2027 and reach full capacity by 2030. The project has secured over €220 million in initial financing, including €200 million via France’s green industry tax credit (C3IV), and Trina Solar has joined as a strategic technology partner.
Enosis — biogenic CO₂ to renewable gas
Enosis’ CouplHyNG project will co‑produce biomethane and e‑methane by combining biogenic CO₂ from biomethane plants with renewable hydrogen. The approach can increase a biomethane site’s energy output by about 70% or up to double. CouplHyNG was selected in the Innovation Fund’s small‑scale category and was one of three e‑methane projects chosen in this round.
