Its role Investor / Financier
The Japan Hydrogen Fund, L.P. is a private infrastructure and impact investment fund dedicated to advancing the global hydrogen value chain. Established in 2024 through a collaboration between the Japan Hydrogen Association (JH2A), Advantage Partners, and Sumitomo Mitsui DS Asset Management, the fund focuses on investments in hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilization facilities, as well as related technologies and service providers.
With a target size of approximately $1 billion and commitments exceeding $500 million as of late 2026, it targets commercialization- and scaling-stage businesses across Japan and the broader Indo-Pacific region. The fund has made investments in companies such as Infinium Holdings (e-fuels), Twelve (sustainable materials), and GravitHy (low-carbon iron production in France).
Operated with Advantage Partners providing investment advisory and management support, JH2A facilitating collaboration with its extensive member network, and SMDAM handling fund management and ESG evaluation, the Japan Hydrogen Fund represents Japan's first dedicated global hydrogen investment vehicle. It aims to support the early social implementation and scaling of hydrogen supply chains through public-private partnerships, contributing to decarbonization efforts in hard-to-abate sectors worldwide.
