Nordic Ren-Gas selects technology partners for Tampere e-methane plant
- Sweco will act as EPCm and integrator for the Tampere e‑methane plant.
- Sunfire supplies electrolysers; SIAD Macchine Impianti provides the hydrogen compressor and Tenaris the hydrogen storage; Hitachi Energy handles grid connection.
- Saipem supplies the carbon capture unit and Technofrigo by Clauger handles CO2 liquefaction and storage; DWE supplies methanation technology.
- Araner supplies the heat-pump for district heating integration; Valmet and Insta Automation provide top-level and process automation for RFNBO-compliant flexible operation.
Project scope
Nordic Ren‑Gas has named a consortium of European suppliers to deliver an integrated e‑methane production plant in Tampere. The facility combines renewable electricity, hydrogen production, biogenic carbon capture, synthetic methane production and heat recovery into a single industrial system.
Hydrogen and electrification
Sunfire will supply electrolysis technology to produce green hydrogen. SIAD Macchine Impianti will provide the hydrogen compressor system and Tenaris the hydrogen storage solution to enable safe handling and operational flexibility. Hitachi Energy is responsible for the grid connection and electrification technologies required for large‑scale power‑to‑gas production.
Carbon capture and methanation
Saipem will supply the carbon capture unit to extract biogenic CO2 from existing flue gases. Technofrigo by Clauger will liquefy and store the captured CO2. DWE supplies the methanation technology that combines hydrogen and CO2 into e‑methane suitable for existing gas infrastructure.
Heat integration and automation
Araner will supply a heat‑pump system to upgrade process waste heat for Tampere’s district heating network. Valmet provides the top‑level automation system and Insta Automation delivers plant automation and process control to enable flexible, RFNBO‑compliant operation.
Strategic intent
The project is presented as a European value chain demonstration, linking electricity, gas, CO2 and heat to produce renewable methane for hard‑to‑abate sectors while improving energy efficiency and energy security.
