- €600 million allocated for 70 projects to decarbonize transport.
- 24 ports to receive funds for onshore power and ammonia bunkering.
- 500+ new charging locations for lorries on TEN-T network.
- Third cut-off cancelled due to fund exhaustion; new proposals expected.

Funding Allocation
The European Commission has allocated over €600 million to 70 projects aimed at decarbonizing transport and enhancing EU industry competitiveness. This funding comes from the Connecting Europe Facility and targets sustainable investments in urban areas, ports, airports, and road sections of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T).
Port and Charging Infrastructure
Among the projects, 24 ports will receive funds to implement onshore power supply and ammonia bunkering infrastructure, supporting the transition to renewable and low-carbon fuels. Additionally, the TEN-T network will see an expansion of over 500 new charging locations for lorries, including megawatt chargers.
Regulatory Context
The Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) plays a crucial role in expanding alternative fuel supply infrastructure across the EU's transport network. It complements the ReFuelEU Aviation and FuelEU Maritime Regulations, which focus on decarbonizing the aviation and maritime sectors.
Future Plans
Due to the exhaustion of funds, the third cut-off for proposals will be cancelled. The Commission plans to assess potential reflows and prepare a new work program and call for proposals in the coming months.
