Investment and Expansion
Covestro is expanding its production capacities for thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) Films in the Platilon® range at its Bomlitz site in Germany. The company is investing a low double-digit million euro amount in this expansion, which includes enhancing the associated infrastructure and logistics. The Bomlitz site, operated by Epurex Films, a wholly owned subsidiary of Covestro, focuses on application development and production for semi-finished products.
Meeting Global Demand
The new capacity aims to meet the growing global demand for multilayer TPU Films, which are used in automotive interiors, construction, wound care, and outdoor clothing. The new facilities are scheduled for completion by the end of 2023.
Sustainability Initiatives
Covestro is committed to becoming climate-neutral by 2035 and is fully geared toward the circular economy. As part of this commitment, the Bomlitz site plans to switch its energy supply completely to green electricity starting this year. Additionally, the site will focus on developing and producing partially bio-based products to meet increasing demand for sustainable solutions.
Specialty Films Competence Centers
Epurex Films is one of three Covestro competence centers for specialty films in Germany. The other two centers, located in Leverkusen and Dormagen, focus on the research, production, and application of polycarbonate films.
