Investment and Development
Novapex, a key player in the phenol and oxygenated solvents market, is expanding its specialty product line by launching a new isopropyl acetate (IPA) unit. This initiative is part of their downstream development strategy and involves an investment of €4 million. The new unit, located on the Roussillon chemical platform, will have a production capacity of over 5,000 tons and is expected to be operational by the end of 2015.
Background and Strategic Reasons
Novapex, a subsidiary of the French group Novacap, was established in 2002 to take over Rhodia's phenol and acetone business. The decision to enter the IPA market was made in 2008 for various economic and strategic reasons. The new IPA unit will complement Novapex's existing range of oxygenated solvents, which includes isopropanol and acetone.
Applications of Isopropyl Acetate
Isopropyl acetate is used in the manufacturing process of synthetic resins and serves as an extraction solvent in the pharmaceutical industry. It is also utilized in the production of inks for food packaging and in the cosmetics industry, particularly in perfumes, due to its intrinsic qualities.
Innovation and Sustainability
Novapex has developed an innovative concept for the new IPA unit that combines process intensification with energy and environmental efficiency. This approach aligns with the Novacap Group's Sustainable Development policy, aiming to enhance both operational performance and environmental responsibility.
