BioMCN is investing in a new method for the production of bio-methanol, which involves injecting green CO2 into the reactor. This investment will increase production capacity and create additional employment. The project has received a grant of over 110,000 euros from the province of Groningen, the Economic Board of Groningen, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The investment aligns with regional objectives and ambitions for sustainable use of green raw materials. BioMCN sees this investment as the first step towards fully greening the production process and maintaining employment in the region.
BioMCN invests in Delfzijl (NL) in a new method for the production of bio-methanol, an important ingredient of biofuel. The investment makes it possible to inject green CO2, which is released in the production of biogas, into the reactor at BioMCN. The investment project thus leads to a production capacity of 15,000 tons of bio-methanol and additional employment. From the innovative idea, sustainable use of raw materials and increasing employment, both the province of Groningen, the Economic Board of Groningen (EBG) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs grant a joint grant of more than 110,000 euros. This money comes from the RIG2017 program, which stands for Regional Investment Groningen.
The injection of (green) CO2 is a new approach to further greening of the products. In the run-up to the final decision to invest, BioMCN has done the necessary research together with various knowledge institutions. BioMCN invests an amount of approximately 1.2 million euros at the factory in Delfzijl. The company sees this investment as the first step towards the full greening of the production process. "This investment fits well with our strategy to grow the chemical industry and thereby maintain employment for the region," said Patrick Brouns, deputy. With the new method, three new jobs will be added and fourteen will be retained. "The investment also shows that industry creates innovative solutions," adds Deputy Brouns.
Connection with regional objectives and ambitions
The investment project fits well with the Regional Innovation Strategy Northern Netherlands and the Northern Innovation Agenda 2014 -2020. The North wants to play a leading position in Europe when it comes to sustainable (re) use of green raw materials throughout the chain. "Together with the province of Groningen and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the past period has worked hard to propose this project for a premium from the RIG program," said the CEO of BioMCN, Paul Compagne. EBG Board member Marco Smit adds: "Chemistry growth is a major challenge for the chemical cluster in Delfzijl. BioMCN takes this important step."
