Investment and Expansion
Solvay is investing €6 million to expand its sodium bicarbonate production capacity at its Rheinberg site. The new capacity is expected to be operational by the end of 2018.
Environmental Compliance
The expanded production will enable Solvay to supply SOLVAir® SB 0/3, a solution designed to help industries reduce atmospheric pollutants and comply with stringent environmental regulations.
Technological Benefits
SOLVAir® SOLUTIONS effectively eliminates acid gases like hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sulfur oxides (SOx), offering a sustainable and cost-efficient method for industrial companies to meet regulatory requirements.
Strategic Growth
This expansion complements Solvay's existing capacity in Torrelavega, Spain, and provides a new platform for growth in flue gas treatment. Key industries benefiting include waste-to-energy plants, power plants, industrial boilers, and the glass, cement, and steel sectors.
Sustainability and Funding
The new capacity will feature reduced energy consumption, aligning with Solvay’s commitment to decreasing CO2 intensity. The project is co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
