Restructuring and Production Changes
Spolana is restructuring its production to focus on industrial decarbonisation, aiming to enhance profitability and competitiveness. The company will cease PVC and caprolactam production by mid-2025, affecting approximately 500 jobs. Affected employees will receive severance packages and retraining opportunities.
Market Challenges
The petrochemical sector faces a slowdown in Europe, impacting Spolana's financial results. Smaller production capacities and higher costs in Europe have reduced competitiveness against US and Middle Eastern producers. Despite efforts to focus on high-value products, Spolana's results remain negative, prompting cost-cutting measures.
Support for Affected Employees
Spolana will assist employees affected by redundancies with CV creation, counseling, and job search support through the Czech Republic's Labour Office. Some employees may be retrained for roles in new production facilities.
Ongoing Projects
Spolana will continue modernizing its sulphuric acid production facility, which began in 2023. The company is also involved in a flood protection project in collaboration with the town of Neratovice. Additionally, the wastewater treatment plant will remain operational to serve the site and nearby villages.
