- ABO Energy Suomi plans to produce up to 100,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually by 2035.
- Nordic Ren-Gas aims to scale e-methane output to 2.7 TWh per year by 2035.
- VolagHy Kuopio SPV targets 50,000 tonnes of synthetic fuel production annually from 2031.
Partnership Agreements
ORLEN has signed agreements with Finnish companies ABO Energy Suomi, Nordic Ren-Gas, and VolagHy Kuopio SPV to produce and supply renewable hydrogen and its derivatives. These partnerships aim to secure hydrogen supplies amid rising demand and support industrial decarbonization.
Production and Storage Plans
ABO Energy Suomi is developing installations to produce up to 100,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually. Nordic Ren-Gas is constructing facilities to produce e-methane using renewable hydrogen and biogenic CO₂. VolagHy Kuopio SPV is working on a synthetic fuel project with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year. ORLEN plans to use salt caverns in Poland for large-scale underground hydrogen storage.
Strategic Objectives
The agreements are part of ORLEN's strategy to develop a European hydrogen ecosystem, ensuring competitively priced hydrogen for Central Europe. The collaboration aims to advance hydrogen technologies and contribute to climate neutrality, aligning with the EU's decarbonization goals.
Logistical Cooperation
The partners will collaborate on developing a model for future hydrogen supplies to Poland, focusing on logistics for transporting hydrogen and its derivatives from Finland to ORLEN's facilities in Poland. This cooperation is expected to enhance energy security and support the clean energy transition.
Regional Impact
Cooperation with Baltic Sea region partners is crucial for building stable hydrogen supply chains to Poland. By leveraging international expertise, ORLEN aims to ensure diversified and cost-competitive renewable hydrogen supplies, supporting zero-emission fuel deployment in line with its 2035 strategy.
