First Integrated ChemPark in Prahovo, Serbia

At a glance
  • Elixir Group's ChemPark covers 600 hectares, with 300 hectares for industrial development.
  • Sulphuric acid supply will double to 800,000 tonnes/year from 2023.
  • The park features a 110-KV transformer station with 31.5 MW capacity.
  • An incinerator will provide 35 tonnes of process steam per hour with 30 MW thermal output.

Overview

Elixir Group is developing the Industrial ChemPark Prahovo (ICPP) on the Danube, modeled after German chemical parks. Serbia has become a key investment location in Central and Eastern Europe, attracting sectors like automotive, electronics, mechanical engineering, and chemical industries.

Production and Logistics

At ICPP, Elixir produces mineral fertilizers and phosphoric acid. Sulphuric acid is transported by rail from the ZiJin Bor copper smelter, with supply set to double to 800,000 tonnes/year from 2023. Other raw materials like potassium chloride and phosphate concentrate are imported via the company's port facility. The French organization Phosphea produces Monocalcium phosphate at the park.

Energy Infrastructure

The park features a 110-KV transformer station with two capacities of 31.5 MW, of which Elixir currently uses only 10 MW. The location offers new investors the lowest price for CO2-neutral electricity, thanks to the nearby hydroelectric power station.

Strategic Location

ICPP is strategically connected via the Danube to the Black Sea and the port of Constanta, and to the west, it connects to the Danube basin and the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal, reaching Rotterdam and the North Sea. The site is well-connected by rail and road to Serbia's and international networks.

Future Investments

Elixir is expanding ICPP, which covers 600 hectares, with 300 hectares dedicated to industrial development. A key investment is an incinerator for industrial and hazardous waste, providing 35 tonnes of process steam per hour with a thermal energy output of 30 MW, enhancing energy efficiency and production security.

Green Hydrogen

Elixir has developed a concept for green hydrogen production in Prahovo, leveraging the nearby Djerdap II hydroelectric power plant. The green hydrogen can be used within ICPP or supplied to local and European markets.
