Investment and Expansion Plans
DuPont is set to invest over $100 million in a multi-product, multi-region expansion plan for its high-performance Nomex® brand fiber. This three-part expansion will begin rolling out in phases later this year.
New Facility in Spain
A significant new isophthaloyl chloride (ICL) facility will be constructed in Asturias, Spain. ICL is a key ingredient in the manufacture of Nomex®. This new facility will also free up existing capacity for Kevlar® production.
Increased Capacity in Asturias
The existing Nomex® site in Asturias will add new equipment to boost Nomex® fiber manufacturing capacity by more than 30%.
Expansion in Japan
DuPont Teijin Advanced Papers, a joint venture, will double Nomex® paper production capacity in Japan. Nomex® paper is used in electrical insulation and as lightweight structural support in commercial aircraft.
Applications and Market Demand
Nomex® is inherently flame-resistant and provides protection against a variety of threats, making it essential in protective apparel, high-performance materials, and electrical insulation. The expansion is driven by increasing demand for worker safety and energy-efficient electronics.
