Dow Launches PE Unit in Tarragona

New Plant Launch

Dow Chemical has launched the first commercial-scale plant for its new family of special propylene-ethylene copolymers, Versify plastomers and elastomers, in Tarragona.

Upcoming Projects

Dow has also announced the inauguration of a new fiber plant and the introduction of a new polyethylene train, both set to commence in 2006. The new polyethylene unit will be part of the Tarragona complex and is scheduled to start operations in the second quarter of 2006.

Production Capacity

The new polyethylene unit will help meet the demand for differentiated and high-value polymers used in high-performance films, consumer products, and industrial applications. It will have the flexibility to produce various types of resins, including LLDPE and ultra-low-density products. Once completed, the plant will operate with a capacity of 300,000 tons per year.

Employment Impact

The new plant will provide direct employment to 18 people and indirect employment to 72, contributing to the local economy and workforce development.

Global First

On October 19, Dow Chemical inaugurated its first production plant for Dow XLA elastic fiber at the Tarragona manufacturing center, marking a significant milestone in the company's global operations.
